Siena Trehy, aka Ionic Bond

Siena has been in the business of making science fun for kids FOREVER! Siena’s Dad started ‘Mr. Bond and the Science Guys’ in Nashville, TN when she was 4 years old, so she grew up in and around the world of experimentation and sharing the joy of learning with other kids. As an adult, Siena moved to Baltimore to study Environmental Studies and Anthropology at Goucher College. Her main focus was to learn how to share concepts of sustainability with others, something that she has certainly integrated into the Science Guys curriculum. Siena is also a mom to two future Science Guys, Auggie and Remy! She is a Co-owner of the Science Guys of Baltimore with Matt.

Matt Simms, aka Hazmatt Bond

Matt Simms is the life of our science party! He was born and raised in Colorado Springs, CO and went to college at Colorado State University in Fort Collins, studying Classical Guitar. After college, he taught music lessons and ran a company called Music Together, teaching music to infants and toddlers. He went on to move to Nashville, where he met the Bond family. He mentored under Keith (the original Mr. Bond) for 5 years before moving to Baltimore, marrying Siena, and starting the Science Guys of Baltimore. He still enjoys playing and writing music, but he now primarily spends his time with his kids and working as Co-Owner, Developer, and Teacher/Showman for the Science Guys.

Travis Henningfield, aka Mr. Travity

(he/they)

Travis is the Baltimore born and raised Lab Manager of the Science Guys of Baltimore! He attended the Friends School of Baltimore from PreK-12th grade, moved to NYC to attend the Pratt Institute of Art to study fashion and illustration, then later graduated from the Institute for Culinary Education with a degree in Culinary Arts. As he worked at various restaurants in NYC for 5+ years, he rediscovered his love for food and learning and became fascinated by the science involved in cooking and how we experience flavor. As a queer kid with ADHD, he has always loved learning but hasn’t always loved school, and takes great pride in being able to relate to, assist, and advocate for the neurodivergent and LGBTQ+ kids he works with to make learning an easier and more entertaining experience than the one he grew up with. When he’s not doing all of that, he loves learning about psychology, making stretchy beaded jewelry, playing video games, running and playing table top role playing games, and taking family walks with his soon-to-be-husband and pet Corgi.

Selene Eckert, aka Erosion

(they/them)

Raised in Texas for most of their life, they discovered a love for teaching early in life, when they taught crochet and sewing to other kids. After finishing high school and moving out of their small town, they have worked at a craft store, been a bridal seamstress, and an at-home caretaker. The call to teach came once again in the form of an after-school program for local kids, and they rediscovered their love for it. They came to Maryland to live with family, and became an art teacher over the summer. Now teaching science, they love to discover the connections between the world of art and science. In their free time, they like to knit, crochet, and record songs for friends. They are currently working on two novels, and loving on their sibling's two cats, Fuzz and Obi.

Karl Sanzenbacher, aka Mr. Mischief

Karl Sanzenbacher, also known as Mr. Mischief, has been teaching in Baltimore City since 1994. He grew up among the pine trees in Maine long ago. He then went and got a Bachelor's degree from Carleton College in Northfield, Minnesota, and a Master of Arts in Teaching from Miami University in Oxford, Ohio. Despite all the academia, Mr. Mischief firmly believes that the best part of teaching and having fun is in meeting the kids at their level and seeing what comes next. That makes him a perfect fit for the Science Guys!

Somehow, he has also managed to raise three kids, remain married, and stay active in his various communities. His hobbies include reading, cooking, and game playing – the strategy games club he leads regularly draws well over thirty kids. In the best of ways Mr. Mischief embodies the old line: “Anything can happen, and it usually does!”
